Requirements and Application
The Master's program Geodetic Engineering is dedicated to students with a B.Sc. in Geodesy and Geoinformation or related topics, such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Geosciences, or Electrical Engineering.
It is a full-time program taught entirely in English. The standard period of study is four semesters, including the Master's thesis. The program offers three profiles, covering the main research fields of our institute.
Requirements
All applicants have to fulfill academic and language requirements.
Academic Admission Requirements
In detail applicants must have
- a total of at least 24 credits from Mathematics, Physics and Programming
- a total of at least 48 credits from at least two of the following six research areas
- Physical Geodesy, Space Geodesy, Geodynamics and Earth System Research,
- Data Analysis, Modeling and Scientific Computing in the context of Geoscience,
- Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing, Computer Vision and Robotics,
- Geodetic Measurement Technology, Engineering Geodesy and Satellite Measurement Technology,
- Algorithmics, Spatial Databases, Geo-Information and Geo-Information Systems,
- Urban Development, Land Readjustment and Real estate Evaluation and Land Management.
Based on the application documents, the examination board will decide your eligibility for the Master's program.
Language Requirements
Applicants must provide proof of their English skills. The niveau has to be minimun B2 and can be fulfilled by tests or ceritfied language of the Bachelor degree.
- TOEFL paper-based: 575 points
- TOEFL internet-based: 90 points
- IELTS: 6.5
Native English speakers; German, Swiss, Austrian citizens with Abitur/Matura; and students who received their first degree entirely in English do not have to submit language certificates.
Application
The master's degree program in Geodetic Engineering is an open-admission program. However, both academic and language requirements must be fulfilled.
The application is made via the application portal of the University of Bonn.
Based on the application documents, the examination board will decide your eligibility for the Master's program.
Mandatory documents for your application (in English)
All documents have to be certified.
Please note, we do not consider GRE scores.
In case you have not yet finished your bachelor's studies before the application deadline expires, you can apply without a final bachelor's certificate. We'll check your application preliminary, using the documents you provide up to that time. Please note that the final bachelor's certificate needs to be submitted within the first semester of your studies!
We only accept official transcripts of records from the university you graduated from in English or German. The transcript MUST display names and credit points according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) for each individual course you have covered during your studies.
If you got your first degree entirely in English you do not have to submit language certificates. Please provide an official document which proves the language of instruction, e.g., diploma supplement or exam regulations. Also native English speakers; German, Swiss, Austrian citizens with Abitur/Matura do not have to submit language certificates. Everybody else need to proof of their English skills by TOEFL or IELTS.
